A GREAT START TO THE SCHOOL YEAR

FUN WAS HAD BY ALL AT THE EAST BROOK FAMILY PICNIC

This past Saturday, the PTO invited East Brook Families and Faculty to come together and celebrate the start of the new school year.  Over 70 families and a good number of faculty members enjoyed a beautiful day filled with music, games, prizes and the company of one another.  Big thanks go to  Mr. Stokes for initiating this fun event in an effort to bring the East Brook community together, to Mr. Ostrow for setting a fun tone with his sing-a-long, PRAA for their prize donation of One Free Sports Registration, and all of the volunteers that helped make the afternoon fun for the community (see below for a full list).

THE KINDERGARTEN SOCIAL WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!

Thank you to our Kindergarten Social Chairs - Cleo Shields, Laura Clark and Nancy Alvarado - for organizing such a fun event.  You truly created a wonderful experience for East Brook's newest Owls and their families.

WELCOME BACK TO OUR FANTASTIC EAST BROOK FACULTY!

The PTO was happy to treat our wonderful teachers to breakfast on the first day of school (provided by Nicholas Markets), to express our appreciation for all that they do throughout the school year and our excitement to continue to partner with and support them.  We welcomed our newest teachers with flowers as well. Welcome back, everyone!  We’re so excited for all that’s to come this year.

WHAT'S NEW AROUND SCHOOL

Last Spring, our members approved some major projects that would positively impact our school.  Now, due to funding by the PTO and participation from parents and faculty alike, these projects are complete and ready for our children to enjoy!

GAGA PIT

Gaga is a fast-paced, high energy game great for Elementary-Middle School kids.  Players use physical agility skills - such as jumping, turning, striking, and dodging - along with hand-eye coordination.  Quick game turn-overs allow larger groups of children to be involved at the same time.  Thanks to PTO funding, donations by Jersey Hardscape, and the hard work of two of our East Brook dads - Mike Curran and Patrick Festa -  along with some student helpers - Fiona Curran, Ella McDermott, Saday Cetoute (5th Grade)
Lilah Curran (3rd Grade), and Anna Curran (Kindergarten) -
the students of East Brook have already started enjoying this wonderful playground option.

CLASSROOM STORAGE

Classroom cubbies were added to Kindergarten and 3rd grade classrooms to provide separated storage for coats and book bags.  All 5th and 6th grade classrooms have been outfitted with brand new lockable storage for their books. This storage will simulate lockers the students will utilize at the Junior/Senior High School.  Our 2017/2018 PTO Co-Presidents - Lauren Sbarbaro and Lauren Capilli - were instrumental in taking inventory of each classroom, devising appropriate solutions and ordering all items.  From there, Hernando Gallego and Amaurys Garcia of PR Building and Grounds handled the building and installation of all items.  All in all, these storage solutions help our students to keep their items organized, and encourage responsibility and independence.

FLEXIBLE SEATING

The PTO has made a significant investment in flexible seating options for our classrooms. Students (and teachers) now have various options for seating during instructional time.  We engaged our school Physical Therapist - Sheli Dansky - who was invaluable in offering her experience and expertise to advise on the best solutions for each classroom.  Among the options are wiggle stools, Adirondack chairs, ball chairs, standing and pedal desks, Zuma rocking chairs, beach lounges – along with lap desks to make independent work portable.
